Author Event Recap and Giveaway: David Levithan and Rachel Cohn

Hello lovely readers!  Tonight I attended another wonderful author event, this time featuring David Levithan and Rachel Cohn, authors and frequent collaborators.  I was excited because I've met both authors before, so knew I was about to be entertained!    The event was held at the lovely independent bookstore, Mrs. Nelson's Toy and Book Shop in La Verne, California. Be sure to scroll down and enter our giveaway of Signed Copies of Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist and Dash and Lily's Book of Dares, both are co-authored by these talented writers.

David reads from Every Day
Both authors started out by reading their newest releases.  David read from Every Day and Rachel read from Beta.  While they both sound amazing and I can't wait to pick them up, I was most intrigued by their collaborative works.  They've published three books together: Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist, Dash and Lily's Book of Dares and Naomi and Ely's No Kiss List. David and Rachel said that they had a basic idea behind each story but didn't know exactly what the other would write until

Rachel Reads from Beta
they received the next chapter.  I'm currently reading Dash and Lily's Book of Dares, and I have to say this method worked out brilliantly.  You can tell they had fun coming up with the story, and their easy and teasing relationship I observed tonight shines through in the writing.  Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist has already been turned into a movie, and both David and Rachel were very pleased with the results, as David said they felt like they "hit a home-run" with that movie.  When asked if any of their other books would also be turned into films, they said

there is bites of interest but nothing solid at the moment.  Speaking of movies, David related an experience he had while taking a friend to the bookstore featured in Dash and Lily, The Strand.  He went in to buy a few books and also picked up a copy of Dash and Lily, and the clerk who rang up said "Oh, this is really good, have you read it." He replied, "yeah."  Then she said, "It's awesome and it's being turned into a movie, I can't remember who's doing it, but maybe they'll film some of it here."  And he said, "That's awesome, I'm glad I have a copy then."  He said the best part was when he realized he had to pay with a credit card and he thought "oh here comes the punch-line" but nope, no recognition from her at all.  All in the audience were laughing, of course, at this point. So this is how rumors get started!

Both David and Rachel captivated us all, I swear I'm starstruck every time I go to an author event!  These two were so nice allowing us to take pictures and ask extra questions while we were getting our books signed, it was a true pleasure meeting them.  When I say "we," I mean Arlene from Winterhaven Books, and I!  Yes, we got to meet up again and we had another great time gossiping before and after.  Two obsessed bookworms together and the night just flies by!  I had a great time, Arlene!

Well, now it's your turn to reap the benefits of these author signings: signed books!  We've decided to giveaway a signed copy of Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist and a signed copy Dash and Lily's Book of Dares.  Both are signed by Rachel Cohn and David Levithan, and both are hardcover.  The giveaway is INTERNATIONALSo fill out the rafflecopter below for a chance to win.  The only requirement is that you follow the blog via GFC. The giveaway will run for two weeks, so make sure you get your entry in soon.  Thanks for visiting and good luck!

Looks like you had an awesome time Rachel! The reason I'm not making these signings btw is because I'm up at school in Santa Barbara. I totally miss seeing you and the hubby at these events though :(

David Levithan and Rachel Cohn, how fun! I've read Nick&Norah and Every Day and I love both books so much.

One thing I envy the most from your country is how often the bookstores (even the small ones) held a fan event like this, we rarely get them in my country >.<

Rachel, I'm moving to CA. First Libba Bray, now these two? I wish author events would happen in my neighborhood! Anyway, it sounds like you had a great time, dear, and I love the story Levithan told about buying his own book! LOL! ;)

I am so happy for you, yet so jealous, that you get to go to so many author events! This one seems to have been fantastic. I loved Nick & Nora (the movie) but haven't read the books.
Thanks for the giveaway!

AWESOME RACHEL!!!! I would have loved to have gone to this event! I'm super thankful more events seem to be coming through a city fairly close to me, so I've been able to attend more in these past few months than I have the past 2 years combined. It's been fantastic. Meeting authors is a blast, and I love living vicariously through you when you do these posts!

Rachel!! You just keep going to these amazing events and expect us not to get jealous! (Or do you? :D) I'm glad you and Arlene had so much fun, I liked Every Day and The Lover's Dictionary a lot and I want to read David's other books as well.
thanks for the giveaway, darling!

We are very fortunate out here, and I feel very lucky. That's a bummer they don't feature the authors out there more often, Tirta. I hope that changes for you. :)

We are pretty fortunate to have so many authors come through close to where I live, Andrea. I wish all my blogger friends could come to these events with me because I know we'd have a blast together. I saw Nick and Nora too, I still need to pick up the book as well. :)

@Jenny-It is wonderful meeting these authors in person. It really adds to the reading experience when you know a little background. I'm glad you're getting more events close to you, Jenny. I can't wait to hear about some of them. :)

@Maja-I wish you could come with me, Maja! I know we'd have the best time together. :)

You get to go to such cool events! So cute that even though their new books aren't co-written they've done an event together, I LOVED reading this!

Another post Rachel! I loved hearing about David's story in the Strand, I can't believe the clerk didn't realise it was him, after seeing his card too! I'm so sad that you have so many awesome events that you get to go to, but I'm happy that I can live vicariously through your posts! :)

Ohhh how I envy you, Rachel! ;) I agree with Keertana- I'm moving (or at least taking an extended vacation!) in California so I can chat with Libba Bray, Rachel Cohn, and David Levithan (who sounds SO COOL) over tea, scones, and what have you. :)
