Blog Tour: Greta and the Glass Kingdom by Chloe Jacobs

Hi all, as part of the Greta and the Glass Kingdom blog tour hosted by YA Bound Book Tours, I get to share my review of the exciting follow up story Greta and the Glass Kingdom by Chloe Jacobs. Before that here's a bit about the book.

Publisher: Entangled Teen
Publication Date: 9th February 2015.
Once upon a dark time… Greta the human bounty hunter never quite fit into the shadowed, icy world of Mylena. Yet she's managed to defeat the demon Agramon and win the love of the darkly intense Goblin King, Isaac. Now Isaac wants her to rule by his side—a human queen. And the very announcement is enough to incite rebellion… To make matters worse, defeating Agramon left Greta tainted with a dark magick. Its unclean power threatens to destroy her and everything she loves. With the Goblin King's life and the very peace of Mylena at stake, Greta must find a cure and fast. Her only hope lies with the strange, elusive faeries in the Glass Kingdom…if she can get there before the evil within her destroys everything.

Greta and The Goblin King was a story which I absolutely adored, I loved the unusual but believable relationship that Greta found herself in, but most of all I loved Greta’s feistiness, her strength in that she never gave up. So I was thrilled that Greta and The Goblin King wasn’t the last that we would be seeing of this crazy world and fantastic characters that Jacob’s created.

I loved how the story immediately kicked off from where we were left off, Greta was still stuck in Mylena, but it seemed as if it was the right choice that she had made, she was still in desperate need to locate the rest of the boys, but otherwise in no immediate danger as she had been before. Also she had lovely overprotective Isaac by her side. I had totally forgotten the way Isaac could make me feel and I was grateful that he was still the same growly goblin who we’d come to care for. Even though there was the potential for chaos in his kingdom, he still made Greta his number one priority. He knew his people may never accept Greta for who she was (just a simple human being), but he wanted to offer her the utmost protection that he could. I loved seeing this side of him. I know that Greta didn’t want to constantly depend upon Isaac’s protection and before she knew him she was a fiercely independent person, but at times I did want to shout at her, why couldn’t she just do what was best for her and safest for her? Okay in her position she had been offered a chance of finally getting rid of the magick within her, which had so far proven to be dangerous for her and Isaac. But for one second could she just consider the offer of help instead of jumping the gun? Then maybe a particular turn of events may have not taken place?

Once again we were able to experience one crazy journey with Greta, Jacob’s threw every single obstacle possible at Greta’s way that I lost hope numerous times that we would be getting the happy ending that I’d been hoping for. Also something major happens to one character that kind of broke my heart; you could say this journey really was a tumultuous one. But Jacob’s once again threw in a nice mix of characters into the story, I was quick to warm up to a few of them, but there was also this little voice at the back of my mind telling me to be a little wary at the same time too. And a couple of unexpected surprises that come later on went on to prove that you could never be certain about which character to trust in this novel.

Greta and The Glass Kingdom was a novel with a real frenzied pace, I liked it how there was no clear safe path that Greta could take and that she had to constantly stop and consider things. My only little peeve about this story was that the little niggle of a potential love triangle coming through kept popping up, I knew who my heart belonged to and whose Greta’s should too, I admired the decision Greta made in the end, but wished that she didn’t have to contemplate the decision as often as she had to. Despite this however Greta and The Glass Kingdom was a brilliant follow up story to Greta and The Goblin King, I didn’t realise that there would be another story which could evolve after this one, but I’m all for going back to this fantastic world and characters once again.

About the Author: Chloe Jacobs is a native of nowhere and everywhere, having jumped around to practically every Province of Canada before finally settling in Ontario where she has now been living for a respectable number of years. Her husband and son are the two best people in the entire world, but they also make her wish she'd at least gotten a female cat. No such luck. And although the day job keeps her busy, she carves out as much time as possible to write. Bringing new characters to life and finding out what makes them tick and how badly she can make them suffer is one of her greatest pleasures, almost better than chocolate and fuzzy pink bunny slippers.

Omfg where the hell are all of my comments on blogspot going these days <.<

I'm glad that you found this one to be enjoyable, Jasprit. I don't like the sound of a suggestive nod to a future love triangle, though D:

Lovely review! <33

Amazing post Jasprit. <3 This cover is gorgeous. Sigh. I own the first book, but not sure I will ever read it :p And they you mention a love triangle, sort of, in this book. And I DO NOT WANT IT. Sad face. Just, whyyy. Don't get the point of all these damn triangles everywhere :p So annoying. Anyway. I'm glad you still enjoyed this book a lot, though :D Thank you for sharing your thoughts sweetie. <3

I loved the first one AND I loved this one! My only complaint is that I had a bit of trouble getting re-acclimated to the world and characters as it'd been so long since I'd read the first. It's a great series! Now I'm dying, dying, dying to read the next one! I hope it doesn't take so long!

The book sounded great until you mentioned that includes a love triangle, because it's one of the things I avoid in my books. As you said, I usually fall for one guy and want the girl to pick him too and as soon as possible, LOL. I still haven't finished Shatter me series by T. Mahi because of that, even though I loved the 1st book and I'm not sure I ever will. I'm just bad at dealing with that "oh, who should I pick?" drama. Glad that you enjoyed the book despite some issues. Great review!

I remember enjoying the first book and I was really excited when I found out that there would be another book. I'm glad to hear that for the most part, the book was an exciting read for you, but I have to admit that the inkling of the love triangle certainly doesn't please me. I also don't like that it takes her long to decide. Still, I'll be sure to check this book out. Perhaps, now that I know about the LT I won't be as bothered.
Lovely review, Jasprit!

Ahhhhh I know what you mean about love triangles - sometimes I really hate it when a love triangle is introduced in the latter part of the series because readers have already pretty much fallen in love with the first guy.... and then this other guy comes out of nowhere. Sheesh.

I'm not sure if I'll be picking up a copy of this book, but I think I'll give it a shot should I want to read more fantasy. Isaac seems like an amazing character!

Great review, Jasprit! :)

I read the first book, what three years ago I think? Anyway, it was good but I don't remember much about it. I am bummed that this one is leaning toward a love triangle that tarnishes a bit does't it.

Blagh love triangles. I hate when a character questions who they should be with when the person they are with is absolutely perfect for them! But hey, at least she made the right decision! :D

I am glad that you ended up liking the follow-up though! :D It's always nice to immerse oneself in a familiar yet fun world! :)

Lovely review, hon <3

I remember reading the first book but I never continued with the series and don't remember connecting as well as I'd have liked to the characters. Sorry to see this isn't blowing your mind, Jasprit, so I hope your next read definitely does!

It sounds like there was never a dull moment in this book. Which is good, because it helps me speed-read through it. I haven't read the first one, sadly.

Lovely review, Jas!
